Good Riddance to Bad News

toronto to shanghai to beijing

Last Calvin & Hobbes comic.
The last line is “… let’s go exploring!”
I am determined to return to Toronto with all the enthusiasm of a new resident of the city. Given my suburban upbringing, major absence over the past two years preceded by four undergrad years in the stone city of Kingston, I really don’t know as much as I ought to about the city where I toppled out into the world.
Living abroad has given me a semi-permanent tourist’s curiosity; this is a sort of tilted pie-eyed view of the world, perpetually impressed and excited, as if the sky is made of gumballs. I’m already slipping backwards into boredom in China (oh, diminishing returns), and I’d like to recapture/maintain this giddy optimism about life and living. Let’s get settled, but not too settled.
